Well we have certainly seen our share of disasters this year. Wildfires, strong storms, hurricanes, and senseless killing.
As Methodists, we are always there when disaster strikes. The best way to help is through “The United Methodist Committee on Relief” or better known as UMCOR. UMCOR is the not for profit humanitarian agency of the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1940, UMCOR’s mission is to alleviate human suffering – whether caused by war, conflict or natural disaster – with open minds and hearts to all people.
UMCOR enters into a disaster at the request of the resident bishop or church partner. This request may be for financial or material resources, technical assistance, volunteers or any combination of resources.
Port Royal members have always given generously to UMCOR and recent collections have been sent by our Church Treasurer to the Conference for assistance in the most recent of disasters.
We are God’s people helping others and you should all feel extremely proud. I am!
