The month of December is here and what a wonderful time of the year it is. It is a time of expectation and wonder and joy and hope and peace and love all wrapped together in one big package from our God to us. Advent and Christmas—that time of year in the church that anticipates the arrival of the long awaited Messiah and His birth on that glorious night when the angels sang and the Star shone brightly over the manger where the Christ Child lay.
I love Christmas! This time of year here at our church is filled with worship times and celebrations that all are invited to share in and enjoy. Note that the Advent Sundays are December 3, 10, 17, and 24. These services will be our 11 o’clock worship time. Then on December 24, Christmas Eve, we will have a Candlelight Holy Communion Service at 5 PM that afternoon. Please come and be part of this special, holy time in our Church.
The United Methodist Women have planned a Christ Birthday Party for Sunday morning December 10 at 9:30 AM. The Church is invited to come and be a part of this celebration. I understand that a delicious brunch is planned, also. This celebration will be held during the regular Sunday School time. Come and join in the fellowship with the members of our church family. Even if you have not been attending Sunday School regularly, you are most cordially invited to come and be part of this time together. Won’t you make plans to be here?
At the root of every Christmas celebration, every tradition, and every custom is the story of the birth of Jesus. Whether told in the simple words of the Gospels of Luke and Matthew or in any of the countless beautiful legends and stories that have grown out of the events in the Bethlehem manger, it is in the Christmas story that the true meaning of Christmas lies.
Let us pause during this busy time of year and thank our God for the most precious gift of all that He sent to us on that first Christmas morning, the gift of His Son.
Have a wonderful Christmas. May God bless you always…
